Kriya Soham

On December 7th and 10th, 2021 Kriya Soham will conduct its first lessons on-line. An astrological session combined with meditation, yogic breathing techniques and an insight into the Vedic system, its comparatives with the ancient American heritage. This session includes Swamini Vilasananda who chose a life of renunciation and moved from Ohio to Argentina to build a Gurukul. Astrology and meditative techniques provide a bridge into the Divine world. These sessions are an opportunity to meet the persons who found some answers. “Didi” Anita Acharya and Swamini Vilasananda found answers by serving humanity and the earth’s creatures. To the uninitiated, a beginning; to the experienced some new things to learn from them.

Swamini Vilasananda Sarasvati

"What makes a difference in one's life are life's challenges and rewards," states Swamini Vilasananda Sarasvati. I met Swamini Vilasananda Sarasvati in Saylorsburg, PA on a matter on how to manage book sales better in Amazon.com. I knew, my varied Karmic life had a connection with this wonderful Didi (elder sister). To Didi Swamini Vilasananda, and to my predecessors, my humble respects, I remain an younger sibling, ever. With my prayers answered, it becomes easier to navigate the more complex world of my Gurujana's. In Swaminiji's case, she discovered Isvara in her younger years, though she describes "I didn't know him by that name." While she grew with her siblings - three brothers and a younger sister in the US, she remained in her own world. On meeting Pujya Swami Dayananda-ji, who one day reminded her, she had a past a connect with India. Swamini writes, "I have no doubt about his statement. I met Swami Chinmayananda first in California, and while we were all in the Chinmaya Mission, including Swami Dayananda-ji, I attended the Piercy California course in northern California. At the end of a long-term course, Swami Dayanandaji's students found a 'land' property in Pennsylvania at Saylorsburg. Swami Chinmayananda-ji continued with the Piercy course without Swami Dayananda-ji". "It was good," she writes, "when one chooses a teacher who delivers the goods it is best to stay with that teacher. And Swami Chinmayananda had his own followers. Then Vijay Kapoor, who attended the Piercy course with his wife and two boys, asked me to organize a fundraising event in the San Francisco bay area around Stanford University to raise funds for the Gurukulam in Pennsylvania, I did not hesitate."

"Pujya Swamiji visited California, gave his talks before his return to Saylorsburg. When Swamiji asked me if I would consider joining the staff at the new Gurukulam. I did not think twice. I quit my job and moved to Saylorsburg, PA. I was on the staff as a student, I attended as many classes as I could."

"When I was in California," Swamini adds, "I met an Argentine couple, Christina and Eduardo DiTomas. They reiterated to Pujya Swamiji of their plans to return to live in Argentina. Immediately, Pujya Swamiji asked them to organize a week of talks in Argentina. They asked me to go to Argentina to aid the Argentine family with the arrangements. To our amazement, Pujya Swamiji's many followers in Argentina ensured the hall remained full. Swamiji decided to go there again in the same year, and I went with him to Argentina. In that visit, one of the students casually told me that apartments were cheap and I could buy one with money from a credit card. I decided with Swamiji going there annually, and with his permissions, I stayed in Argentina and bought an apartment. But then I returned to Pennsylvania to find a job to pay off the credit card. When I moved to the apartment in Argentina I had to teach English classes to pay the expenses."

"I had still not visited India then. After I completed the three-year intense Vedanta and Sanskrit course in Saylorsburg, Pujya Swamiji decided to open a new Gurukulam in Coimbatore in Tamilnadu. From then on, Swami Dayanand taught classes at Saylorsburg only during the summer months. Three-year courses became non existent; what remains today are mere 10-day courses. But, Swami Dayanand visited Argentina annually during the 1990s. And when he stopped visiting, I sublet my Argentina apartment and joined the staff at the Coimbatore course in Tamilnadu. After seven years in 2007, I gathered my books and sent them on a ship to my apartment in Argentina. While in India, Pujya Swamiji gave me the exclusive rights to publish his books in Spanish. He wanted a Gurukulam built in Argentina which would become a sister Gurukulam to Arsha Vidya Pitham in Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania.

Recap of Session 1

The lessons on Apana and Prana techniques take a while to learn and comprehend. As the body knows how to assimilate the energies through deep breathing, diseases, stress and anxiety slowly disappear. In the next session, Didi will tell us how to assimilate the energies of Apana and Prana into Saman.

If you wish to attend, please let Vikram or I know before. To avoid any online disruptions, please send your emails and names to Vikram or Dev.
